Follow the big white stamps on the way from the Regatta center to the citycenter of Medemblik and you will find the Nautiek festival: music, games, a nautical market and much cosiness in the port.
The weather condition maybe force people to stay inside, but it is absolutely worth coming and to have a look at all the festivities. By the end of the morning the first people put their stuff out on the booths of the nautical market. Giant bobbins rope, motoroil, a big round sailboat window… everything is for sale today!
Mr. and mrs. Homan from Bergen, 40 kilometers of Medemblik, docked their boat today in the harbor in the center. “We sell everything from our own stock. We’re for the second time at the regatta now and we love the atmosphere, the happy, elated people. We hope it’s gonna be a busy day for us!”
In the background there’s coming music from Adele out of the speakers, the fanfare ‘Windkracht 13′ blows ‘Viva Hollandia’ out of their instruments and now lots of visitors fill the streets of the Nautiek. Day trippers, residents and visitors of the regatta enjoy all the activities. Owner of store’de Goede Watersport’ hopes that the event brings some more customers to her store. “When it starts raining I hope they will find a shelter inside. But it brings at least a lot of fun to the city.”
Near the port office the kids of the water scouting are making little artworks of kindling and rope; they put it together with sailing knots and are practicing the reef-knot. On the other side of the water the scouting kids are helping visitors building rafts. The grills are ready for tonight. The guys of the youth department of fire are training there extinguishing qualities in case of emergency and problems with too well-done steaks tonight.
Biggist and most populair attraction is the sailingboat ashore. The youngest visitors can practice in an Optimist on the side. If they have mastered proper technique they can sail the Optimist on the water. Maybe the children of the Nautiek will be the future sailors on the Delta Lloyd Regatta.
