Little girls become big one day. Michelle Broekhuizen, the 18 years old Dutch Laser Radial sailor, won last year the ISAF World Championship and Europeans for Youth in her Laser Radial. The Delta Lloyd Regatta is her first World Cup in the Netherlands.
Michelle begon to love sailing when she was 5 years old and was on a vacation in France where she watched childeren sailing. One season later she started in an Optimist. From club competitions to regional competitions to national competitions she climbed on to the youth championships. Last year, in the summer of 2010, she became first in the European ánd World Championship.
At the first day of the Delta Lloyd Regatta, Michelle maked her debute in de seniorcup. She’s to old for the youth competitions now and gets the change to become bigger and bigger. She’s doing it very well here in Medemblik, today she ended 15th in the Laser Radial race. So, to the other sailors: whatch out! Because Michelle is coming and she has one goal: to win the Olympics!
