SPA is still into the Delta Lloyd Regatta

The SPA Regatta. For many sailors one of the most recognizable names in the history of international sailing. SPA was the proud main sponsor of the Dutch Regatta from 1985 until 2004. Twenty years of partnership with the largest mineral water company in the Benelux resulted in a worldwide known sailing event.

The Delta Lloyd Regatta, as it is named today, was initiated by SPA, the Royal Netherlands Yachting Union and Trefpunt Sports & Entertainment. These three organizations, all came together with the wish to create an international sailing event on the highest level. This so called Regatta should be held in the Netherlands. Mainly because of the good cooperation with SPA, this resulted in the first SPA Regatta in 1985 which was a huge success. Throughout the years the SPA Regatta became one of world’s leading Olympic Sailing regatta’s with over 1.100 participants from more than 60 countries.

After twenty successful editions of the SPA Regatta, there are many highlights to look back on. The SPA Regatta is well known for various introduced innovations that were subsequently adopted by the International Sailing Federation. Examples are: separate classes for women in the 470 and Mistral class; prize money; shorter courses that resulted in more races and colored spots to identify leading competitors.

Even today, with Delta Lloyd as the new main sponsor of the Dutch Regatta, SPA is still involved as a sponsor. The Organizing Committee is glad to have such a good and long term partner like SPA. Every year the Delta Lloyd Regatta is supplied by SPA with the best mineral waters for all employees and competitors. From SPA Reine to SPA Barisart and SPA & Fruit, over 7.500 liters of mineral water is being consumed for ultimate hydration.

This year’s Delta Lloyd Regatta will be held from May 22nd until May 26th, and naturally SPA will be there to support the Regatta in a fluid way.
