Tom Slingsby finished third in the medal race. But that was not a problem. With his twenty-four points in total he leaves the rest of the class behind him.
“I realised that if I would end last and Fontes would finish first, I would lose.” That was not that likely. Still Slingsby wanted to sail a good race and was watching his competition closely: ”I was watching Fontes too much in the beginning of the race. So I decided to sail my own race. And that worked for me”, says Slingsby.
“I’m very happy about my first place. I had to win a big regratta like the Delta Loyd to increase my chances on getting an olympic nomination. I have put the pressure on my oppenents.”
