WINNERS: Dutch fill the 49erFX podium

Annemieke Bekkering and Annette Duetz secured the gold medal with a 3rd place in the windy Medal Race. Despite an international turnout, the Dutch filled the podium, with two girl/boy crews taking silver and bronze. Claire Blom was recovering from knee surgery this week, so her helm Nina Keizer was racing with their coach, Francisco Rebelo de Andrade, up the front of their boat. Keizer looked set to take silver until a late burst by Remy Oomens and Josca Hummel launched them into the lead. Medal Race victory secured silver for Oomens and Hummel, relegating Keizer to bronze. Video: It was a strong-wind opening day for the 700 boats competing at the Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik, Holland. Poland’s world-class windsurfing squad has always enjoyed the strong breeze, and Pawel Tarnoski leads the RSX men’s windsurfer division after a perfect day of three race victories. Zofia Noceti-Klepacka leads the RSX women’s division with scores of 2,1,2. 49erFX class opened to all genders

The Delta Lloyd Regatta has decided, together with the ISAF and the international 49er class, to open the 49erFX class to all genders. It is now possible to mix teams female / male or subscribe in the class with men teams as well. The women’s only teams are still in the race for the ISAF ranking and qualification for sailing the World Cup in Weymouth. The 49er class is an upcoming class. By allowing male sailors in the 49erFX class it is easier for them to evolve their sailing skills and making their first steps into professional 49er sailing. A…
