Megan Pascoe: ‘It took me over a decade to get my hands on the world trophy’

By | 2.4M, All news, Frontslider | No Comments

Megan Pascoe won the gold medal during the 2.4 Metre sailing World Championships last year. She will compete at the Delta Lloyd Regatta for the 8th time. ‘The queen of the Regatta  returns to Medemblik’   This will be the eighth time you compete at the Delta Lloyd Regatta. What is special for you about this event? The IJsselmeer is very shifty which I like, it reminds me of growing up on the small ponds. Delta Lloyd Regatta is a well-run event with great race committee and an interesting bit of water to sail on. What does it feels like…

Heiko Kroger (GER) started the day with a seven point lead in the 30 boat 2.4 Norlin OD fleet. He capitalised on that by winning the first race of the day. Damien Seguin (FRA) slipped up slightly with an eighth place, but both Matt Bugg (AUS) and Helena Lucas (GBR) were right behind the German sailor, setting up a final race showdown. Seguin…

But it’s not often you see the pro sailors come back later in their careers to compete on the Olympic scene, certainly not when they’re 62 years old. But American pro Dee Smith has done exactly that. He’s competing this week in the 2.4mR Paralympic singlehanded keelboat. No one would have been more surprised than Smith himself if you had told him eight years ago that this is what he’d be doing in 2015. It…

World No. 1 starts at the bottom again

By | 2.4M, News, Skud | No Comments

Megan Pascoe is the ISAF-ranked World No.1 sailor in the 2.4mR singlehanded keelboat. So why is the British Paralympic sailor to be found competing in a SKUD doublehander with helmsman Will Street at Delta Lloyd Regatta? Unfortunately for Pascoe, it’s because she was beaten to Paralympic selection for Rio 2016 by her rival Helena Lucas, who won 2.4mR gold at London 2012. “Officially the British trials ended after Hyeres, and unfortunately it wasn’t me who got selected,” shrugs the 28-year-old. “I was surprised when the selectors made the decision. Palma was such a close regatta. I had the gold medal…
